Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, has described the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) as an internal threat that would not be needing foreign help to curtail by the Federal government. The Minister said this in an interview with journalists in New York yesterday September 15th. “IPOB is, as of now, an internal threat and Nigeria does not need international assistance to resolve it. Boko Haram is not an internal threat; it is an international threat. When the group pledged allegiance to the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), it became international threat.” he said

A spokeswoman for President Beji Caid Essebsi has confirmed that Tunisia has overturned a law that banned women from marrying non-Muslims. She made the announcement and congratulated women on gaining "the freedom to choose one's spouse". Until now, a non-Muslim man who wished to marry a Tunisian Muslim woman had to convert to Islam and submit a certificate of his conversion as proof.  Tunisia, which is 99% Muslim, is viewed as one of the most progressive Arab countries in terms of women's rights.  The new law comes after President Essebsi pushed for the lifting of the marriage restriction law that was put in place in 1973.  He said in a speech last month, during celebrations of the National Women's day, that the marriage law was "an obstacle to the freedom of choice of the spouse".  The restriction was also seen as violating Tunisia's constitution which was adopted in 2014 in the wake of the Arab Spring revolution.

According to him, 'My dear IPOB brothers and sisters let us all go and register and get our PVCs ready for 2019. Channel our anger to the appropriate quarters with the strength of our votes (Igwebuike) . Vote and protect our votes with the same strength , energy , passion and the desire we have for the actualization of the sovereign state of Biafra. By so doing we are creating a solid foundation for the south Eastern Nigeria. Let us channel our anger to all the south eastern governors, senators , house of Rep members, and off course the ruling party because they have all failed our generation and the recent happenings in Abia state over the past weeks has once again proved to me that we need a complete change in the administration of the Igbo nation. The South East Governors’ Forum has announced the proscription of activities of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB). Arising from its emergency meeting on Friday in Enugu, Chairman of the forum, Gov. Dave Umahi of Ebonyi requested the group and other of such groups to articulate their grievances and send to the forum. Umahi appealed to all governors in the zone to ensure compliance with the directive in their various states and for the Federal Government to withdraw the troops in the zone. He said: All activities of IPOB are, hereby, proscribed. IPOB and all other aggrieved groups are advised to articulate their position on all national issues. Such should be submitted to the committee of governors, Ohaneze Ndi Igbo and National Assembly members from the South East zone through the chairman of the South East Governors’ Forum.
