Oyo State Govt suspends SS2 student for slapping a corps member crazily

  The Oyo State Government has suspended a Senior Secondary School 2 student of Anglican Commercial Secondary School, Orita-Mefa, Ibadan, for one month for slapping a corps member. The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Rahman Abdu-Raheem, ordered the immediate suspension of the student during a visit to the the school on Tuesday, February 15. Rahman Abdu-Raheem said the student on return from the suspension would apologise to the corps member and sign an undertaking. The commissioner also urged the students to be of good behavior , while reiterating that the state government would not condone any act of indiscipline. Speaking further, he warned that any student caught acting in uncivilized manners, henceforth, would be dismissed from schools in Oyo State. He also charged teachers to be more dedicated and punctual at work. Ogunbona of the Ibadan Magistrate’s Court, Iyaganku- Ibadan, Oyo State capital, Monday, rained curses on those who take pleasure in raping minors, as a 52-year-old man, Mr. Gabriel Olaniyan, was brought before her over allegation of raping a nine-year-old girl. The accused, arraigned on a count charge of having carnal knowledge of the minor, told the court how he lured the girl into a secluded place with N10 biscuit before raping her. The accused, however, dismissed the insinuation that he actually defiled the girl for ritual purpose.  In the charge sheet signed by Fawole Funke, the accused was alleged to have committed the act on March 1 at Alapafon Area of Ibadan. Gunmen attack boat, shoot pregnant woman and Youth

Some gunmen, suspected to be sea pirates, have attacked a Yenagoa-bound passenger boat, shooting two passengers – a pregnant woman and a youth. It was learnt that the pregnant woman, Gulu Leghemo, was shot in the stomach. PUNCH Metro gathered that Leghemo and the youth, identified only as Billy, had been rushed to a medical facility in Koluama 2, in the Southern Ijaw Local Goverment Area of Bayelsa State. The boat was said to be travelling from Koluama to Yenagoa, the state capital, when the pirates struck between Koluama 1 and 2 area of the waterways. The Chairman, Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, Bayelsa State chapter, Lloyd Sese, who confirmed the incident, said the pirates also went away with 200 horsepower engine boat belonging to one Sunday Leghemo as well as the belongings of the passengers. “The passengers have been rescued and taken to Koluama 2,” he added.
