Guys, have you been overly bugged recently over your ladies' complaints about pain in their stomach during their menstrual period? You will not hesitate to get her checked up after reading through the ten things you need to know on the signs and symptoms of endometriosis.

Have you heard of the word Endometriosis? I am sure you have not, and I will get to that, but before we do, ladies you need to drag your friends to read this post, and guys you need to call your women around to read with you. Get it?

Endometriosis (en-doe-me-tree-O-sis) or Endo is a painful condition that affects 2 in 20 women in the world. The issue with endometriosis is the fact that a lot of ladies lack knowledge about painful disorders that happen to them and instead of voicing out and discussing this disorder with medical personnel or with peer groups, they prefer to keep this pain to themselves and treat it as what it's not.

Endometriosis is a painful medical condition where the tissue that lines your uterus ( known as the endometrium) grows outside your uterus on other parts of your body. Most commonly this condition usually involves the Fallopian tubes, uterus, and the tissue surrounding your pelvis. It is very rare to have endometrial tissue spread way beyond your pelvis.

With Endo, displaced endo tissues would continue to act like it normally does act in the body. It gets thick, breaks down and bleed alongside your menstrual cycle. But as a result of the fact that the displaced tissue cannot exit the human body, it stays trapped within the pelvic region.

As mentioned earlier, endometriosis is most times overlooked as just normal menstrual pain and a lot of ladies prefer to do self medication instead of actually checking out what exactly is wrong. According to the office of the women's health in the United State, about 11% American women suffer from Endometriosis. Imagine what will be the case in Nigeria, where our complete disregard for health check up and the ability to ignore subtle signs and opt for self-medication is rife!

I am sure a lot of Nigerian women would be having this chronic condition. Hmmmmn!!

Here are the 10 things to know on the signs and symptoms of endometriosis:

1 Endometriosis causes sever pain especially during your menstrual period. I understand that a lot of women feel pain during their menstrual period, however, women that are diagnosed with endometriosis typically have worse pain than usual. It has been reported that these affected women state in most of their medical check up statements that one of the major symptoms is that the pain increases as time goes on. It is therefore important to note that while you feel your menstrual pain is normal, it MAY be SOMETHING MORE!

2 Another major symptom of endometriosis is pain during and after s*xual intercourse. If you observe this, then you need to check yourself. Something is definitely wrong.

3 You may observe occassional and erratic heavy flows (menorrhagia) or bleeding during your menstrual period (menometrorrhagia).

4 Endometriosis also lead to diarrhea, nausea or bloating during menstrual period.

5 You may also realize that you have fatigue and constipation during menstrual period as well.

6 Although pain is a major indicator of endometriosis, it is not an accurate indicator of the condition. It has been observed that women with cases of mild endo may have intense pain while woman with serious cases of endo may have subtle pain or even feel no pain at all.

7 Although the exact cause of Endo is not indeed clear cut, a series of causation factors are stated more explicitly below:

- Menstrual blood having Endo cells flow back through the fallopian tubes into the pelvis region instead of moving out of the woman's body
- Endo cells may be on a surgical incision made on a woman's body as a result of a surgical operation especially c-section.
- The blood vessel transporting Endo cells to other parts of the body.

These are just a few of the causative factors of Endometriosis.

8 You may think having short menstrual cycle is normal, but it may just be as a result of a severe case of Endometriosis.

9 Endometriosis may lead to OVARIAN CANCER

10 Severe untreated cases of Endometriosis may lead to serious fertility issues. It is best that you get yourself sorted at a certified fertility clinic when you realize you've been having this condition and it has recently escalated.[/b]

Now that I have shared the 10 things you need to know on the signs and symptoms of endometriosis, and you realize these signs and symptoms of endometriosis is exactly how you feel, please do not hesitate to go and see your doctor. Do not be timid and scared to talk about how you feel.

The repercussions of not treating Endo or self medicating on what should be treated properly is really grave!
