AFEX president Adesina has also
expressed disappointment at the actions of the police The federal government
has condemned the Nigeria Police Force for a raid on African Exchange Holdings
(AFEX) warehouse by the security force. The condemnation was handed out by
minister of agriculture and rural development Audu Ogbeh.
Ogbeh described the actions of the police as being against the
efforts of the government to develop the sector that it sees as critical to
restoring the current economic recession. In tweets on Saturday, July 15,Ogbeh
said the actions of the policemen were condemnable.Oyebols.com gathered that
the chairman of the African Development Bank and former Nigerian agricultural minister
Akinwunmi Adesina expressed disappointment at the raid of the warehouse. He
tweeted on Friday, July 14: AFEX is a pan-African holding company that was
founded by former banking magnate Tony O. Elumelu and other top international
businessmen to establish commodity exchanges across Africa.
The company signed a Memorandum of Understanding with
agriculture ministry to create the first warehouse receipt system that will
enable Nigerian farmers and cooperatives to safely store their produce at
government-approved warehouses. Meanwhile, Oyebols.com had earlier reported
that Ogbeh said that Nigeria produces more food than can be consumed by its
people. Ogbeh made his comments while flagging off the Nigeria Yam Export program-me on Thursday, June 29. According to the minister, a huge chunk of the
food gets wasted due to poor storage facilities across the country.
